1998 Buick LeSabre Recall

The 1998 Buick LeSabre has been served recalls owing to two potentially dangerous
defects. The first defect sighted was the missing or under-torqued steering gear
attachment bolts. This is a grave concern because if a bolt is missing, the car
may not respond accurately to the steering motions of the driver thus the probability
of accidents is relatively amplified.
Another minor annoyance is the noise brought by the rattling of the loose bolt.
Dealers have been tasked to inspect the presence of proper torque of both steering
wheel bolts, if found to be loose they must retighten them to pass specification
standards. This service is free of charge.
Another problem which was found to have affected the LeSabre is the faulty air
bag system.
The defect meant that the air bag deflator could fracture from its joint during
deployment. Needless to say, this could cause injuries which may otherwise be
prevented by a fully functional airbag. Aside from that, fragments of the inflator
may fly and hit passengers thus creating more injury rather than preventing it.
The driver side air bag module assembly will be replaced by dealers after they
have made sure that it is indeed affected by the aforementioned defect.
